Qisda obtains certifications for collaborative robot-based production lines

In the electronic industry with its drastic market fluctuation and changing quantity and style, to maintain the high elasticity of the production line and to increase the level of details of its production as well as the factory space utilization rate has been a major challenge for automation upgrade. The collaborative robot-based production lines is a solution that brings fewer quantity requirement, more styles, production elasticity, and production customization. However, to realize the collaborative robot-based production lines, a safe protective mechanism is a pre-condition.

As the vanguard for producing the collaborative robot-based production line in Taiwan, Qisda, while working with Mechavision (a start-up company from ITRI), ABB (a leading supplier of industrial robotic arms), and PILZ (the worldwide safety standard assessment institute), began the design, development and retrofitting of the collaborative robot-based production line. As a result of the retrofitting, overall production efficiency has increased to be above 80%, and production area efficiency has increased 52%. Additionally, it brought a 61% decrease in manpower need on production line, and in April 2019 has obtained the PMC’s certification for collaborative robot-based production line, as well as the ISO 10218 and ISO/TS 15066 international safety certification.

To conform with the world trend and to adopt the international standard, the Ministry of Labor amended “Industrial Robot Risk Prevention Protocol” and “Safety Guideline for Operating Production Assistance Robots” to clearly outline the safety and risk control for operating personnel. These initiatives allow the removal of barriers for, through proper regulations, the collaborative robot-based production line. It also helped to increase the utilization of factory space, and led Taiwan’s industry into the beginning year of the collaborative robot-based production line.

To that end, Qisda hosted the certification ceremony on April 19, announcing the first safety certified collaborative robot-based production line in Taiwan, and unveil Taiwan’s official entering into a safe and efficient automation era with the collaborative robot-based production line.

EMC provider Qisda has collaborated with Mechavision a spin-off company from ITRI and its Contact Skin technology is equipped with safety feature for industrial robotic arms, ABB leading supplier of industrial robotic arms and PILZ the worldwide safety standard for machinery to obtain ISO 10218 and ISO/TS (technical specification) 15066 international certification for collaborative robot-based production lines at its automated factory in northern Taiwan from Taiwan-based Precision Machinery Research & Development Center (PMC).

New production line has big improved not only its productivity efficiency and sales per square feet to 80% and 52% but also reducing manpower around 61%.

Ministry of labor has announced “Standards governing Prevention of Industrial Robots Hazards” and “Direction for Work Safety Assessment of Collaborative Robots” since Feb, 2018.
